Antik Yunanlılara göre müziğin, ruhun eğitilmesi ve arınmasında büyük bir önemi vardı.
Müzikle tedavinin tarihi, tıp tarihi kadar eskiye gitmektedir. Antik Yunan’da müziğin;
depresyon, mani, epilepsi, , sıla hastalığı-melankoli, , cinnet, histeri, felç, gut, ateşli hastalıklar,
romatizma, çeşitli ağrılar, veba, kızamık, kuduz gibi hastalıkların tedavilerinde kullanıldığına
dair veriler vardır. M.Ö. 9. yüzyılda yaşamış olan Homeros’un yazdığı Odyssiea’da müziğin
kanamaya iyi geldiği iddia edilir. Platon, Aristidis, Cicero, Asclepiades ve Celsus müzik ile akıl
hastalıklarını tedavi etmişlerdir. Asklepios, hekimlik tanrılığına yükselince M.Ö. 4. yüzyılda
Yunanistan’da bulunan Epidaures’teki asklepionun bir benzerini Bergama’ya da kurdurmuştur.
Yazıtlardan öğrendiğimize göre, asklepionlarda bugün de halen kullanılmakta olan fizyoterapi,
telkin, , müzik terapi yöntemleri uygulanmıştır. İzmir Bergama ilçesindeki sağlık tapınakları biri
olan Asklepion; 8.500 yıllık tarihi, olağanüstü güzel doğası, şifalı doğal kaynaklarıyla Doğu’nun
en batısında, Batı’nın en doğusunda bir kenttir. Bergama; müzik, tiyatro, spor, güneş, çamur gibi
doğal tedavi yollarının ilk kez kullanıldığı, tıp ve eczacılık simgesi olan yılanın bulunduğu, ilk
büyük hastane olan Asklepion’un kurulduğu bir sağlık kentidir. Bu çalışmada da asklepion’daki
tedavi şekillerinden bahsedilerek müzikle tedaviyi ön plana çıkarmaktır

According to the Ancient Greek, music had a big importance for the education of soul and for
circumcision. The history of musical therapy goes back as the history of medicine. There are data
about that music was used for the treatments of diseases such as depression, mania, epilepsy,
homesickness-melancholy, insanity, hysteria, paralysis, gout, inflammatory diseases,
rheumatism, various pains, plague, measles, and hydrophobia in Ancient Greece. It was asserted
in Odyssiea written by Homeros in the 9th Century B.C. that music was good for bleeding. Plato,
Aristidis, and Celsus treated the mental disorders by the help of music. When Asclepios advanced
in the carrier of God of Medicine, he made the similar of Asclepion in Epidaures founded in
Bergama in the 4th Century B.C. As we understood from the inscriptions, the methods of
physiotherapy, suggestion, and musical therapy that are also still being used today were applied
in asclepions. Asclepion, in Bergama town of İzmir, which is one of the health temples founded
for the sake of the Medicine God Asclepios, is a westernmost city in the East and an easternmost
city in the West with its beautiful nature and healing natural resources. Bergama; is a health city
in which the natural treatment methods such as music, theatre, sports, sun, mud was first used,
the snake that is the symbol of medicine and pharmacy was found, the first hospital Asclepion
was founded. In this study, musical therapy was featured by mentioning the treatment methods
in Asclepion
